Tips on How to Protect your Mobile Devices

To most of us, mobile devices are everything; they have all our information, hold pictures from every important moment in our lives, represents bridges between us and friends and family who are sometimes far away or even on the other side of the world. Overall, they are overly important to us, and when something happens and we lose our data we simply cannot deal with it.

Soo, we want to share some tips with you on how to avoid, or reduce the risk of anything happening to your mobile phones.

1 Passcodes are essential

You might think that this is obvious, but apparently, according to a Consumer Reports Survey, 64% of people don't really use passcodes.
So, out first tip is to use a passcode on your phone otherwise you basically give access to all your information to anyone that picks up your phone. It is also preferred that you use a pin code rather than swipe patterns, as it is harder to guess.

2 Use remote Wiping

By implementing this option, if you lose your phone, you can erase all your info from far away so that it doesn't get stolen. It is pretty easy to do it, check out this link which explains exactly what you need to do to enable this feature on iPhone, Android and Windows 8 phone.

3 Try not to use open Public WiFi

We said this so many times, but honestly it is one of the most important things because people can steal your information, passwords and money in a few seconds when you connect to non-secure Public WiFi. Check out our blog post on Public WiFi.

4 Think before you Click

Our sources say that you are 3 times more likely to click on suspicious links on your mobile phone rather than a PC. This is probably due to the size of the screen, the fact that often can't see the full web address, or the speed with which you click on your phone rather than with PCs. In any case, take a moment before clicking and always stay alert!

5 Take note of your IMEI

Your IMEI is your International Mobile Equipment Identity which is usually written on the back of your phone on your battery or in your settings. It comes in handy when you lose your mobile phone and it speeds up the process of getting it back.

6 Back up your phone

You need to regularly back up your phone so that, even if something happens to your phone, you can still recover all your data. It is essential to do this not only for the phone but for all devices too. Check out our blog post on backing up your data.

7 Don't Jailbreak your phone

Jailbreak is when you change your operating system (usually on iPhones) of the mobile device to give you more control and customization options. But, by jail breaking your phone you also enable unreliable operation, security issues, problems when upgrading the phone and you are more vulnerable towards outside attacks.
