Online Shopping Tips ;)
Background
Online Shopping has dramatically increased and improved over the last decade, now it is normal for most people to have everything from clothes to groceries delivered, and recently Amazon launched this new service where you can let in everyone from the delivery man to cleaners into your home. Clearly, you're thinking how safe is this? as online shopping continues to grow, so does the risks of using it.
Here are some tips to stay alert when online shopping:
Let me start with the bare basics;
If their contact information is dodgy, doge them.
If the price is too good to be true, it most likely isn't.
If they have grammar mistakes, don’t make that mistake.
If you are still not sure, a good standard is - if you’ve never heard of them don’t shop with them.
Right, onto my actual tips.
- Look out for https://
- This will highlight that the website is secure
- Always use secure WiFi
- Have a look at our blog post on Secure WiFi
- If the public WiFi doesn't have a password, don’t surf on it
- Is your browser up to date?
- Not sure how to check, let us tell you (blog post coming soon)
- Keep track of your bank accounts
- Check your accounts for suspicious usage
- This is where credit cards are useful as you can stop the transaction
- Use a password manager on your shopping accounts
- Look at our blog post on LastPass for this
- Now DO NOT.... I repeat.... DO NOT follow links from emails
- If you are going to do this, the hackers deserve your details :D
These are just ways to help prevent criminals from stealing your details, however, there is still a chance that they can infiltrate your device.
Hopefully you found this useful.
